Job Overview

Location: Markham, Ontario
Structure: Detached split-level home with attached garage
Problem: Long-standing mouse activity with frequent sightings and droppings throughout the home
Service: Mouse treatment
Visits: 3

Summary

We attended a detached split-level home in Markham to address a long-standing mouse infestation that had been managed through recurring annual treatments. The service focused on exterior inspection and rodent control measures, with no exclusion work performed at the customer’s request. Activity was resolved following treatment, with confirmation provided at the final visit.

Background / Property Context

The property is a detached split-level home with an attached garage. This type of structure can present multiple potential access points at grade level and along transitions between building sections.

Customer Concern

The homeowner reported an ongoing mouse issue that had persisted for several years, with live mice frequently observed and droppings found throughout the interior of the home.

Inspection & Findings

During the initial visit, we conducted a full exterior inspection to identify potential rodent entry points and assess overall conditions. Signs of rodent activity were consistent with the customer’s report. No interior structural modifications or sealing had been completed at the time of service.

Cause Analysis

Long-standing mouse activity is often associated with accessible exterior entry points and seasonal pressure from surrounding environments. Without exclusion work to seal access areas, rodent activity can recur even when population control is effective. Detached homes with attached garages can be particularly susceptible if openings remain unaddressed.

Treatment / Removal

Mouse treatment was carried out by a licensed exterminator in accordance with Ontario Ministry of the Environment guidelines. Tamper-resistant bait stations were installed in exterior areas of high activity as part of the control program. Dylan performed the treatment and reviewed optional exclusion measures with the homeowner; however, exclusion was declined.

Exclusion & Repairs

Exclusion services were offered during the initial visit but were not authorized by the homeowner. No sealing or structural repairs were completed as part of this service.

Outcome & Confirmation

At the final visit, the homeowner reported no further mouse activity inside the home. The treatment effectively reduced the active population, and no additional signs were noted at that time. The customer indicated that similar treatment has been repeated in previous years as needed.

Technician Notes

Dylan noted that while population control was successful, the absence of exclusion work means future activity may still occur over time. No safety or access limitations were encountered during service.
